All adds up to…
461 days of changing people’s lives
When we were in the doctor’s office waiting for our report, (just like every other month) I couldn’t help but to just SMILE and LAUGH. Usually people would be frightened, peeing their pants, or expecting the worst news from the doctor. But, as My mom, dad, and I were sitting there, the definition of JOY filled the room.
The day started off with my dad’s hair sticking straight up as he walked out of his MRI (major Alfalfa). As I was fixing my dad’s hair (like always) I said, “What did they do to you in there?” He said “I wouldn’t know because I slept the whole time.” He went on to explain that he wouldn’t be surprised if the MRI showed him drooling with his mouth open! We laughed, laughed, and laughed some more. Can you imagine the doctors taking a glance at that MRI? We walked up to the doctor’s office and we waited, waited, and waited some more to get our results. (I mean that’s what happens when you go to the doctor, right?)
If somebody walked into that room they would have seen… My dad dancing with a clipboard in hand, My mom yelling at him to stop, and I laughing so hard. Chaos straight out of boredom but, also completely filled with JOY. Well, besides my mom yelling… I guess it was more of a chuckling yell. So that still counts as Joy.
Dr. Benkers came rushing in and we waited there in anticipation to here either Words of Life or Tragedy. She simply said… “You have a BEAUTIFUL MRI. Everything is clear and there is no evidence of residual disease.” Simply a Miracle… She went on to explain that 50% of her patients don’t make it through treatment. The other 50 lived for one, five, or even ten years or more.
We knew that God would come through because miracle after miracle has been our life story this past year. Miracle #1, My Dad hasn’t been sick once over the 365 days, he actually has been the healthiest out of us all. Miracle #2, Multiple people have been impacted by my dad’s faith with his story. Miracle #3, My mom and dad won a cruise and became famous, because dad was part of a ventriloquist dancing act, which lead to sharing their story with hundreds of people… If you haven’t seen his claim to fame, I’m sure he would love to show you the video. Miracle #4, We have learned how to live boldly for the Lord with everything we do. How to DISTINGUISH God’s voice, and how to DIVE into his presence of peace.
When I got the the phone call June 10th, 2014 saying my dad was in the hospital, all I thought was “Through it all my eyes are on you.” God responded, “It is well.” It surely was well . He is a God who is for us and not against us. He has formed us in the womb before we were even born, and stamped a purpose for our lives. The Lord has written a story, and it’s your life.
The climax of my Dad’s story is… at age 56 he got BRAIN CANCER. And he would say to you today, “If I could change my life… I wouldn’t.”
” Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, Before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
