The Dominator

DSC_3732I don’t think most people know this but, my dad has a nickname, and it is…The DOMINATOR. A little background story… We play multiple games of volleyball every year while we are family camping, and my dad thinks he is really good. He thinks he is SO good he “Dominates.” Well I mean he is alright, I’ll give him some credit. But, he is playing with all of my cousins who are in their prime, mid to late 20’s. Get the picture? A 55-year-old trying to compete with very athletic, young adults. Pretty much the only thing he can do is get in their heads, and trash talk them. All you hear is FEED ME! FEED THE DOMINATOR! IM READY TO DOMINATE! BRING IT ON! CAN’T STOP THE DOMINATOR! And then if you are really lucky, you will get the ridiculous dominator look. The look I PROMISE you will never forget. Holding up peace signs, teeth out and him saying YEAH BABY! YEAH BABY! YEAH BABY! and yell… THE DOMINATOR! The saddest part about it, is, I’m almost 100% positive he gave himself that nickname.

When we received the chemo the other day my dad was so excited! Yeah, you read it right, he was EXCITED. My mom and I were shocked. Usually when people receive their treatment they are depressed. But instead he was yelling “BRING IT ON CHEMO! I’M READY TO DOMINATE!” My brother called on the phone shortly after, and I heard my dad say, “Oh I’m doing GREAT now that my chemo came!” You could be thinking oh dang he is just saying that cause he is in denial… but I promise you, that’s a NEGATIVE.Processed with VSCOcam with b5 preset

The reason why my Dad is so excited is because he knows the Lord’s power. The STRONGEST POWER in the entire universe.  I’m pretty sure God can lend my dad some strength to fight this little disease. In fact, he already has given a massive amount of strength to my whole family. Nobody can be down when my dad, the one who is actually going through this process is so FAITHFUL and JOYFUL.

If you zoom out and look at the big picture, we are so little compared to our God. He already knows what is going to happen. It doesn’t make sense for us to worry, stress, be anxious, because the King of not only heaven but EARTH is in control. I understand why people would be terrified if they attacked this battle alone. I would be a complete mess trying to figure out the outcome, because most likely, I would get DESTROYED. It would be like going into the championship World Cup game without ever touching a soccer ball… Wouldn’t you want the best on your team? Since we have that ROBUST faith, it puts this fight into a whole new prospective. We have the MVP on our team, GOD. So be ready chemo, be ready cancer, I would be scared, cause THE DOMINATOR is ready for a fight!

Wow, Ciara! What an explanation of your dad’s incredible tenacity and faith! When we are with your dad, we are always uplifted because of the absolute JOY he demonstrates. He and your mom were here last evening – they walked – and what a pleasure it was to witness his complete confidence in whatever the Lord is doing in his life, as well as in the lives of your mom, Jordan, Lauren, and yourself………also in the lives of grandpa, me, and the rest of “the clan”. We discussed last night a piece of Scripture that we had not really noticed before, Ps. 118:16-18 “The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done many things! I will not die, but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done. The Lord has chastened me severely, but He has not given me over to death”. Good words! It is really something how special parts of Scripture come alive to sustain us at just the right time!

Thank you for your blog; you have such a great way of putting things in perspective! You are awesome!

    Love and Prayers,
    Grandma C

Hi Again! In re-reading about the “Dominator”, it occurred to me that your dad has always lived his life this way…..not that he was ever a bully, he just set his sights high and was determined to win. That’s why he was such a good wrestler in high school. He wouldn’t let anyone defeat him and that’s how he happened to go to State both his junior and senior years in high school. He was very good, definitely “The Dominator”. We are glad to see that he still has that Dominator spirit. I believe he has passed that on to you and Jordan also.

    Keep on blogging!

    Love and Prayers,
    Grandma C

Ciara….I just need to say, you are so awesome. I love reading your blogs. You are really an inspiration too. Your dad has passed that on to you….go big or go home! I love the pictures you posted, they bring a smile to my face. I can’t wait to see you in a few days. I will be in Lake Stevens so I can be around while he starts treatment. Love you so much!

There are those in the Carter/Clan who don’t know me very well, but they know who I am. It was interesting to me to read about “The Dominator” namely Owen. It was also interesting to see his picture and his stance. I grew up with Grandpa Carter, and I know where Owen got his looks and his “Dominator Spirit”. To me it is almost uncanny. There are prayers from South Dakota for Owen, and we continue to pray. There are prayers from those who have gone before us that have been guiding Don’s and my generation for years, and we can attest to God’s power in healing and guidance. Love, Danny
